GURUN: Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) has launched its melamine plant project near its PETRONAS Chemicals Fertiliser Kedah Sdn Bhd complex here.

The plant is targeted to come onstream in 2024 with a capacity of 60,000 tonnes per year, making PetChem the sole melamine producer in South-East Asia, it said in a statement.

PetChem managing director and chief executive officer Mohd Yusri Mohamed Yusof said this was an important project for the company as it further strengthens its strategy of diversifying its product portfolio.

“More importantly, being the only melamine producer in the region, we will be able to meet the Malaysian demand and serve the regional market, which is currently a net importer of melamine,” he said.
